Charges Issued in Shooting Last Week in Augusta County

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va – The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has placed numerous charges for the shooting incident that occurred on December 22, 2023 on Hermitage Road.

Donte’ Eugene Hess, 21 of Staunton was charged with 18.2-56.1, Reckless Handling of a firearm.  Hess was incarcerated in Middle River Regional Jail, and was released on a secured bond.

There was a 17-year-old juvenile male of Staunton that was also charged with 18.2-56.1, Reckless Handling of a firearm, and 18.2-308.7, Possession of a firearm by a juvenile.  The juvenile was arrested at UVA Hospital on 12/23/2023, and is in the custody of Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Detention Center.

This case is still under investigation.  Numerous search warrants are pending, and the ACSO is in the process of collecting evidence.  Additional charges may be forthcoming.

One of the victims’ currently remains hospitalized with serious injuries.  The second victim is in the detention center awaiting surgery.
