Afternoon Storm Chances Return as Heat and Humidity Persist Across Shenandoah Valley

HARRISONBURG VA: (Rocktown Now) – We will remain under the influence of a warm, moisture-rich air mass over the next several days, creating conditions favorable for scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s and near 90 degrees, while humidity levels remain elevated, contributing to muggy conditions across the region.

A front affecting parts of the eastern United States is providing the lift needed to generate showers and thunderstorms, particularly during the hottest part of the day and into the evening hours.

Winds are expected to remain relatively light, meaning storm development will depend largely on daytime heating and the influence of local terrain along the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. As a result, rainfall will be unevenly distributed across the Valley, with some communities staying dry while others see brief but intense downpours. Any thunderstorms that form could also produce frequent lightning and localized heavy rainfall.
