BC Field Hockey loses to Sewanee in overtime, 2-1

BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College field hockey fell in overtime, 2-1, on Sunday to Sewanee.

How It Happened
• Sewanee struck early as a loose ball in the attacking end found the stick of Catherine Crane, and she found the back of the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead on the game’s first shot. Bridgewater struck back as they got pressure in the Sewanee end. Abigail Mundhenk had her first shot blocked, but she corralled the rebound and put her second effort to the back of the net to even the game at 1-1. BC had a pair of penalty corners following the goal, but mustered just one shot off the chances, and that was blocked.
• The Tigers started the second quarter on the front foot, including a pair of shots, but a save by Ashley Nau kept the game tied. Bridgewater flipped the field and was on the offensive for the remainder of the quarter. BC had a pair of shots not reach the target before Carynn Klingler put a shot on target off a penalty corner, but a Tiger save kept the game knotted heading to the intermission.
• The third quarter featured both teams battling for possession in the midfield. Neither side was able to manage a shot or a penalty corner as the gridlock continued heading to the final stanza.
• Bridgewater fended off a pair of penalty corners by the Tigers to open the fourth and tried to flip the field. Klingler nearly got the Eagles on the board as she fired a one-timer in transition, but her shot missed just wide. BC had a pair of penalty corners in the middle of the frame, but just fired one shot on the chances that did not make it to the cage. Sewanee had a pair of penalty corners a minute later, but they too could not get a shot on target. Bridgewater had the final chance of regulation as a pair of penalty corners led to shots on target by Jade Buckles nd Casey Grell, but a pair of saves by Sewanee sent the game into the extra period.
• BC had two early chances in overtime, including a Kylie Amberger shot that was turned aside. Sewanee flipped the field and took a shot from the edge of the scoring zone that had eyes and snuck its way to the back of the net to give the visitors the victory.

Game Notes
• Mundhenk found the back of the net for the second time in as many days in the loss. Amberger led BC with six shots. Nau made the only save for BC.
• Crane had both goals for the Tigers. Hussaini made four saves in her final three quarters of play.
• BC won the shot battle by a 14-7 margin, including a 5-3 edge in shots on target
