BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College men’s basketball fell to Marymount at home by a final score of 69-58 Saturday afternoon.
The Bridgewater College Eagles (BCE) dropped to 5-6 overall on the season as the Marymount University Saints (MU) improved to 3-7 overall.
How It Happened
With a high-energy first half, the Bridgewater Eagles ran out of gas in the second half, posting only 21 second-half points compared to 37 in the first half.
For much of the early minutes of action, MU ran ahead, landing tough shots in the paint. The Eagles returned the favor with a scoring surge by the help of a 5-0 run. Short runs continued throughout the first 20, as Jahmir Brown, Chris Suber, and Javon Jenkins got in on the offensive attacks successfully.
In the final four of the first 20 minutes, Maleek Richardson, Jenkins and Mi’Kis Engram added tough makes to the score total and rounded out the first half with a one-point advantage at 37-36.
The second half began, and the Eagles found an early opening to jump out to a four-point lead off a shot behind the arc from Bradley Owens. Through the first four minutes of the final 20, MU switched gears and played suffocating defense, forcing turnovers out of set plays. The Saints surged ahead and reclaimed the lead at 41-40, minutes into the second half.
Momentum switched back and forth between squads and continuous lead changes were at play. Richardson then helped the Eagles bump the lead back to four off a strong take to the rim. However, the offense soon dissipated, and MU’s defense clamped down on any attacks.
With under four minutes to go, momentum was in full control by the Saints. The Saints pushed the lead to the largest margin it had been in the game at 63-56. The extra breathing room with the controlled possessions and drawn fouls were all MU needed to close it out and finish with the largest lead of the day, 69-58.

• Bridgewater suffered a 29.1% field goal percentage in the second half.
• Despite the loss, Jahmir Brown carried a strong stat line of 15 points, five assists, and four boards, including one rejection.
• There were 12 lead changes in the contest.
