BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater Eagles women’s soccer team triumphed over Mary Washington 3-1 Wednesday afternoon. BC gave Mary Washington their first loss of the season, with late scoring efforts from junior Laura Narby and senior Lyric Birkley.

How it Happened
• Mary Washington had the first shot attempt of the match in the third minute. A shot by Ellen Shine missed the mark out right. Both teams had close calls between the pipes in the following minutes. Maci Landel found her way in the box, but found the gloves of Bridgewater keeper Erinn Lockard. Sophia Phillips and Kendall Garza each took shots that fell off the mark. Lyric Birkley nearly had a goal off a shot attempt in the box in the 12th minute, but it was saved by UMW keeper Emily Orn.
• Throughout the first half, both teams traded shot attempts to no avail. Katherine King had one shot attempt at the 20th minute mark, but it was saved. Towards the end of the half, Lockard faced two shots from UMW, but saved both to enter halftime with a 0-0 score.
• In the early minutes of the second half, Layla Royster had two consecutive shot attempts, each going wide. Laura Narby took a shot attempt in the 49th minute that was saved by the UMW goalkeeper.
• In the 50th minute, Amanda Dolan found Katie Britton in the box. She lobbed the ball over the arms of Lockard and into the back of the net for the first goal of the contest.
• BC had a couple of corner kicks but was unable to capitalize on either opportunity. Though many of their shots were off target, UMW kept the ball in their possession and continued to apply pressure with several shot attempts.
• In the 78th minute, Narby subbed in for Lucy Larson. Almost immediately, she scored from far out to tie the score at one apiece. In the 83rd minute, Birkley found the head of Narby for her second goal of the match. Less than a minute later, Birkley found the back of the net off an assist from Garza to give the Eagles a 3-1 cushion.

• BC took seven less shots than UMW (17) in the match, but both teams had seven on target. Mary Washington took 11 shots in the second half alone with four of them being on target.
• Bridgewater scored all three of their goals in a six-minute period.
