HARRISONBURG, Va. (EMU Athletics) – In a Revolutionary War rematch, the Royals and the Presidents met once again, albeit this time on the field hockey field, as EMU and Washington & Jefferson squared off in a Sunday showdown.

It was a low scoring defensive affair, but the Presidents used a goal in the second and fourth quarters to escape Harrisonburg with a 2-0 win.

Records: EMU 0-4, 0-0 ODAC | W&J 3-3, 1-0 NCAC

Highlights
• Neither team was able to get on the board in the first quarter, as EMU held W&J to just one shot on goal, which was saved by Emma Huante. The Presidents held EMU’s offense without a shot as the game was scoreless after one.
• Huante picked up two more saves, and Sophia Armato came up with a defensive save, to keep W&J off the board. But in the 24th minute, W&J’s Joscelynn Anglin put a shot on cage that was saved by Huante. The rebound came right back out to Anglin, who found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Both teams were held without another scoring opportunity for the final seven minutes of the quarter, and Washington & Jefferson went into the half with a 1-0 lead.
• The Royals defense continued to show out in the third, with Huante adding two more saves and Terranie Bennett picking up a defensive save. In the fourth, W&J added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute.
• EMU’s best offensive chances came late in the fourth, when they applied great pressure to the Presidents’ defense. Both Eve Detter and Joni Wiederman came up with shot opportunities, but both were blocked. Huante added one more save in the final seconds to keep W&J’s goal total at two.

Statistical Leaders
Saves: Huante (7)
Defensive Saves: Armato, Bennett (2)
