HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — It’s the final few days of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign for 2025.

Lieutenant Douglas Ingold provided an update on Wednesday morning. So far, the Salvation Army of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County has raised $175,000 of their $200,000 goal.

The Red Kettle Campaign is the Salvation Army’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Lieutenant Ingold says its a jump start on the fiscal year.

“The money stays right here in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. It jump starts us for the whole year and drives us through the summer when we take kids to camp and more.”

It has been a busy year, and they are planning for another busy year. The shelter is “virtually full” almost every day. On occasion, the Salvation Army has to turn people away because they don’t have a bed. However, the money they receive helps them put together new programs to meet those needs.

“We are trying to meet the need on more than just a surface level,” says the Lieutenant.

He also adds that their food pantry continues to be effective on people’s food insecurity.

Red Kettles are located at Bridgewater Foods, all area Walmart locations including Dayton, Burgess Road and Neighborhood Market in Harrisonburg, as well as Timberville, and the Shenandoah Heritage Market.

Red kettles will be picked up at 3 p.m. today, however, you can still make donations online or send a check to the Salvation Army, 185 Ashby Ave, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
