HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Harrisonburg man that authorities say was responsible for the mysterious death last summer was found guilty of an amended charge.

According to online records, a jury yesterday afternoon found Aaron Christopher Gordon Jr. guilty of voluntary manslaughter after a six-day trial in Rockingham County Circuit Court.

Gordon had been charged with first-degree murder following the death of Towan Julian Cappell, whose body was found at an Eastover Drive construction site on August 18 of 2022.

The 25-year-old Gordon will be sentenced on October 28.

*An earlier version of this story reported that Towan Julian Cappell’s body was found in August of 2023. This was incorrect, as his remains were found in August of 2022. The story has been updated with the correct information, and Rocktown Now regrets the error.
