HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – Richmond homered six times on Tuesday night, as James Madison fell, 10-2, at Veterans Memorial Park in non-conference baseball.
The Dukes dropped to 16-19, while the Spiders improved to 20-16.
At the plate, freshman Keegan Haesler led the way as one of five Dukes to record a hit. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI.
How It Happened
First Inning
Richmond scored three runs on two homers to take the first lead of the game.
JMU responded by scoring a pair of runs on a two-run single from freshman Keegan Haesler, after sophomore Reece Moody and junior Ike Schmidly advanced into scoring position.
Second Inning
Back-to-back homers began the second for the Spiders and hit a third solo homer of the inning to push the score to 6-2.
Fourth Inning
After a fielding error allowed a Spider to reach to begin the inning, a single scored a run to make it 7-2.
Fifth Inning
UR’s sixth homer of the game put an additional two runs on the board to take a 9-2 lead.
Eighth Inning
Two doubles knocked in a run to give Richmond an eight-run lead.
Game Notes
• With six stolen bases, the Dukes extended this season’s tally to 113 for the fifth most in a single JMU season.
• Clay Thompson’s hit streak was snapped at 13 games, but a fifth-inning walk extended his reached base streak to 14 games.
• Reece Moody stole four bases to set a new career high and tie the single-game program record.
• With his four stolen bases, Reece Moody has tied Chad Carroll (2015) and Billy Sample (1976) for ninth place in a single JMU season with 27.
• For the first time since 2006-07, the Dukes have lost three straight to Richmond.
