HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison women’s basketball shot 51.7% (31-of-60) from the field, 40.9% (9-of-22) from three and 84.2% (16-of-19) from the free throw line to cruise to a wire-to-wire 87-52 victory over Texas State on Saturday afternoon inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
The Dukes’ (11-5, 3-1 Sun Belt) 35-point win marked their biggest margin of victory against an SBC opponent since joining the league in 2022.
James Madison forced the Bobcats (6-7,2-1 Sun Belt) to commit 22 turnovers, which the Dukes turned into 32 points. Additionally, JMU outscored Texas State in points in the paint, 40-18.
Peyton McDaniel led all scorers with 19 points to record her 100th career game scoring in double figures, doing so in her 100th career start. Zakia Stephenson posted 18 points on 7-of-15 (.467) from the floor and three assists with a block.
Angela Williams registered a season-high 13 points to go with four rebounds and two steals off the bench. Ashanti Barnes finished with eight points and a season-high five assists, shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field. Bree Robinson also notched eight points, while Delilah Soltys grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
For Texas State, Amyria Walker (12) and Saniya Burks (10) both scored in double figures, while Kyra Anderson produced eight points, six rebounds and two blocks in the loss.

First Quarter – JMU 19, TXST 9
• JMU opened with a quick 6-0 scoring spurt to force a Texas State timeout less than two minutes into the contest.
• Six Dukes scored in the frame, while JMU held the Bobcats to 3-of-17 (.176) from the field.
Second Quarter – JMU 43, TXST 20
• Following a basket from Parr, JMU went on a 16-3 run, highlighted by threes from McDaniel and Soltys, to give JMU a 35-14 advantage with 3:18 to go in the second.
• The Dukes shot 6-of-8 (.750) from behind the arc, with five players knocking one down from behind the arc.
Third Quarter – JMU 55, TXST 27
• A sluggish third quarter saw the Bobcats go 3-for-12 (.250) from the floor as JMU increased its lead to 28 (55-27).
Fourth Quarter – JMU 87, TXST 52
• The Dukes scored 32 points – the most by the team in any quarter this season – after shooting 10-of-14 (.714) from the field and 11-of-12 (.917) from the free throw line.
• Williams (8), McDaniel (6) and Stephenson (6) accounted for 20 points.
• Walker connected on 3-for-3 from long range, scoring all 12 of her points in the final frame.
Game Notes
• James Madison held advantages in bench points (28-22), fast-break points (16-8) and second-chance points (14-4).
• Today’s performance marks the third time JMU has not faced a deficit in a game this season, achieving the feat previously against Kent State (Nov. 3) and VCU (Dec. 7).
• The Dukes’ nine three-pointers are tied for the most by the team this season, also hitting nine (9-of-22) at East Carolina (Dec. 3).
• Coming into the game, James Madison’s largest margin of victory against a Sun Belt opponent since playing in the conference was 30 in its 81-51 win over Texas State in the league title game on March 6, 20223.
• Additionally, the result was JMU’s largest margin of victory against a conference foe since defeating Hofstra by 37 (89-52) on Feb. 23, 2020.
• Texas State did not record an assist until the 8:30 mark of the fourth quarter.
